Standard/Driving Mode
In Driving Mode, the Universal Traffic Recorder begins capturing footage after the engine is turned on, and ends after it is turned off. This footage is then captured onto an SD card, overwriting the oldest recordings with new recordings when the capacity of the SD card is exceeded. For additional storage, users can choose to save their recordings to their smartphone when using the UTR app, available for both Apple iOS and Android devices.
Event Mode
With Event Mode, the Universal Traffic Recorder is automatically triggered to record during instances of physical vehicle contact, hard acceleration, or when the user-set “Driving G-Sensor” exceeds its threshold. Users can custom tailor the “Driving G-Sensor” threshold to their liking via the UTR app. Separate Event Mode files are saved with a pre-defined length, and will not be overwritten by data captured in Driving or Parking Mode.
Parking Mode
Once the engine is turned off, that’s when Parking Mode takes over. Radar based recording, ensures that anything happening around your Volkswagen is captured. For vehicles utilizing radar-based recording, the Universal Traffic Recorder remains in standby for a full 48 hours while your Volkswagen is turned off, until an object breaks a user-controlled sensitivity threshold, and then begins recording. Video based recording constantly monitors the vehicle’s surroundings for 2.5 hours after parking. Separate Parking Mode-specific files are stored on your SD card in a different data folder, and cannot be overwritten.
